22 Weeks & Feeling Old

by tinysneakers

I can’t honestly say this post will be much different from last week. Measuring life by 7 day chunks sure makes it seem short. I had to double check the calendar to see if I was really already at 22 weeks and didn’t skip a couple weeks somewhere in the middle.

What Baby’s Up To

baby at 22 weeks

Baby’s about a pound now, and measures about 11 inches. Judging by past ultrasounds, our baby is probably a little bit more than a pound by now. The coolest development this week? Baby has a sense of touch. He/she can also tell the difference between light and dark, and hear our voices.

How I’m Feeling

I’ve learned pretty well that being too tired or too hungry causes unwelcomed waves of nausea to return. And “too” doesn’t mean as much as you think. “Too hungry” could easily translate to “I haven’t eaten in an hour.”

Aside from those moments, I mostly feel pretty good. More noticeable is that I feel old. Like really, really old. I’m achy and stiff; my back and hips hurt. Sitting too long and standing too long both have disastrous consequences. I still can’t imagine what it feels like with a giant protruding belly to support. {FYI, the discomfort has a lot to do with the hormone relaxin causing all your ligaments to relax. It’s what allows the pelvis to move the way it needs to to let the baby out, but for now, it’s just a pain in the butt. Literally.}

How I’m Changing

I feel larger every day. Not in a bad way. Everyday I seem to be a different shape so I have no idea what clothes to wear or buy. Some days my hips are too big for my jeans; sometimes they’re fine. Sometimes my arms don’t fit through my t-shirts, some days they too. Luckily I wasn’t all that fashionable to begin with, so it’s no big deal I look like a slob most of the time. Winking smile

My weight gain’s right on track. I’m at 60% of my target weight gain and I’m 55% of the way through my pregnancy. I think it might be safe to make my grand return to the gym without worrying.

I love the birds-eye shot of your belly. It will be fun to see how that changes over the next few months!

Too cute! And the hip/pelvic pain only gets worse – just fair warning! 😉

I like the pictures this week. Sorry you feel old. But it’s amazing that women’s bodies can magically adjust like that, isn’t it?

You continue to look great! I’m so sorry the nausea is continuing. But great news that you may be able to return to the gym soon!

LOL I know exactly what you mean about being hungry after only an hour or so. When I had my twins I couldn’t get enough pickles, salsa and of course plain vanilla ice cream (Not at the same time though!)
