Beach in the City

Yesterday we took a break from deck-building and headed out to the husband’s college fraternity alumni reunion.

I’ve been going to this event for 8 years {give or take 1 or 2}. Nothing like figuring that out to make you feel old.

It’s always the first weekend in May and it’s always the sign that spring is really here, with summer just barreling around the corner. It’s our first outdoor event of the year; it’s my first sunburn of the year.

It’s usually in a park, with games like corn hole and volleyball. This year the planning was a little nonexistent, and they scrambled to find a place to hold the event. There were no open pavilions at any nearby parks, so they settled on an empty concert venue/bar with a small patio.

But it just didn’t cut it. There was no field, no corn hole, no volleyball. Not acceptable!

When boys want volleyball, we find volleyball. Don’t ask me how, but we managed to find a sand volleyball court tucked away in a corner shopping center in the middle of a city. Really.

So the rest of the day was filled with slightly unconventional beach volleyball. {By unconventional I mean not exactly knowing the rules, not having the right number of players or people that would stay on the same team for more than 5 minutes, and wearing jeans.}

I was proud to be a member of the winning team. Undefeated. I’m not exactly sure how much I contributed to that feat, though I did manage to serve 8 points in a row when no one was paying attention.

First sunburn of the year: achieved.

Are you good at team sports? I’m not. Smile
