The Shoot
I already gave you a glimpse at the behind the scenes of the Subaru shoot, but filming a video in LA is a once in a lifetime experience {for this gal anyway}, so I’m going to milk one more day out of it.
The {chilly} day began at a swank, modern house in the heart of LA proper. I couldn’t believe it when I found out someone currently lives here. It was so…clean!
I could definitely get used to a bedroom like this. So much sunshine!
First things first…make me look presentable. Having my make up done for me is more than a luxury as a new mom. Too bad no one saw me in real life. 
Once I was all prettified, I prepped for the shoot with the producers. They went through what they were looking for and gave me a head’s up on what types of questions they were going to ask. We practiced by chit chatting about some of the things I was going to say, which made it much more comfortable when the camera was actually rolling.
You can’t see the producers in the video obviously, but it was filmed as if we were sitting down having a conversation. Much better than remembering a bunch of lines!
I imagined myself like a reality TV star in one of those confessional booths: I’m sure there’s secretly someone there prompting them with questions, quotes, and clips from the show. Right?!
Although I was really quite uncomfortable having the camera focused on me {I’m an awkward talker as it is…} it was really low pressure due to the magic of editing. You could mess up and start over again without it being a big deal- it’ll be clipped and re-seamed together later.
After the filming part of shoot, they took some “moving stills”- like photographs except the camera was moving to make things interesting.
You could watch what it was going to look like on film on a monitor with headsets outside. Pretty cool.
I can’t say I was thrilled to be on camera, but I loved, loved, loved getting a glimpse at what goes on behind the scenes. I’ve always been curious to see what really goes on when filming a movie or TV show, and what the celebrities go through to make it happen.
You wouldn’t believe how many crew members it takes to make something like this happen. Every little detail was accounted for, including the exact tint of the light coming through the window in the background of the shoot. The crew had to set up and reset up over and over again as the day went on and the light changed. Even the tiniest outside sound could mess up the shoot!
The whole experience makes me appreciate why celebrities look so perfect in magazines and on film- it’s not all about Photoshopping. There’s a lot of work that goes into making everything look perfect, from lighting to make-up and more.
The rest of the day was filled with other stuff. It’s classified. But included a jaunt around UCLA’s campus and more.
The loooong day ended with an eventful red eye flight home. Including, but not limited to, an in-air re-routing due to severe storms, an extra hour of flight time, a mad dash across a giant terminal resulting in a barely-made-flight, and flying to end destination…and then turning around and flying back due to a closed airport. Followed by a cancelled flight. And then a new flight. I’ll stop now.
All was well in the end though because I came home to the most precious 10 week old in the world.
Just a tad different than my usual Monday, I’d say.
