There’s What in There?

Just out of curiosity, do you read nutrition labels?

I typically do- I compare fiber and protein in the million loaves of bread in the grocery store. I check the sugar content of various brands of yogurt and cereal. I look for unwanted fillers in almond and coconut milk.

But I’m guilty of not checking labels on things I buy out of routine, especially if someone else put them on my grocery list. {cough, cough, husband}.

Take for example this so-called healthy-ish brand of lunchmeat. I don’t look at the labels, I just grab the one I know the husband likes. It says reduced sodium and low fat on the front. It wasn’t until the husband asked why my 18-month old couldn’t eat the turkey that I truly read the label.

Carrageen? Sugar? Cornstarch? Gelatin? What the heck is that stuff doing in turkey? No, really?

Whatever happened to having just turkey in your turkey? Hmm.

Anyways, just a friendly reminder that not everything is as it appears.
