Denial

My four year old has three two more days of preschool before summer strikes.

I still haven’t registered him for PreK. Registration was in February.

He’s not signed up for any summer activities.

My 5 month old still doesn’t nap.

My four year old definitely doesn’t nap.

I work from home.

My husband works out of state almost weekly.

brothers

I’m in severe denial.

About my babies growing up.

About how I’m going to maintain my work load with no summer help.

About only having two more days of preschool. Did I mention that already?

Is it still denial when I’m actually completely aware? Hyperaware. That it’s time to make some decisions and stop putting them off.

Time to pick a preK.

Time to admit that my youngest may never nap well. That I probably need childcare for him too.

Time to publish the giant backlog of posts I have because I never have “enough time” {<– ha} to put the finishing touches on them.

Or maybe I’ll just blissfully keep my head buried in the proverbial sand and try my hardest to keep my babies my babies just a little bit longer.

big bro little bro

Yeah, that last one I think.

Because we all know babies don’t keep.

What’s Up Wednesday // June

I always mean to do one of these but I’m terribly with both days of the week and planning ahead, so when I realized things were lining up this week I had to jump on board.
What we’re eating this week…

Lots of fresh berries, sandwiches, and anything cold. I’m so sad strawberry picking season is over already- those thugs taste like candy.

summer berries
What I’m reminiscing about…

The beach. Apparently according to Timehop this is the week we’ve gone to the beach the last few years. Love spending time unplugged by the water, but we’re foregoing a trip this year since we’re buying and working on a house.

baseball on the beach

What I’m loving…

Three and a half. I hope I’m not jinxing myself by saying this but we’re in a good phase and having lots of fun just hanging out. He’s my little buddy and keeps me laughing all day long.

three year old
What we’ve been up to…

Lots of summer birthday parties involving splash pads and bouncy houses, and plenty of early morning bike rides to beat the heat. The last week and a half has been filled with swim lessons which are not going as well as last year. I’ve also been squeezing in some Pure Barre classes now that our schedule isn’t so crazy.

What I’m dreading…

Moving in the middle of July.

What I’m working on…

Trying to stay ahead of my deadlines instead of worrying about getting things turned in at the very last minute. Especially a feat during summer.

What I’m excited about…

Closing on our house today! It’ll still be a few weeks before we can move in but still. Yay.

What I’m watching/reading…

Watching nothing. Reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah {very different from her other books but once I got over that I’ve been liking it}. Next up is It was Me Along by Andie Mitchell.

What I’m listening to…

Apple radio {alternative if I pick, pop if the little guy picks} on my UEBoom. I make KB have dance parties with me while we make dinner.

ueboom bluetooth speaker
What I’m wearing…

Shorts and workout tanks…it’s too stinking hot for real clothes. {That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.}

What I’m doing this weekend…

We actually have a plan-less weekend for once- I kept it open in case I needed to be painting a house. Still TBD on that one. I know, I’m exciting.

What I’m looking forward to next month…

Having a pool to go to! This 100 degree June has been torture without a fun way to cool off – the hose just doesn’t cutting it.

100 degree june
What else is new…

My rug. 😉 yes, I bought a rug for my house before I had a house to put it in. It was at the top of our list {a cozy place to play} and it was on such super clearance I couldn’t pass it up.

What I’m doing for the 4th of July…

It’s the husband’s birthday so he gets the luxury of choosing our activity for the holiday. Hopefully it involves fireworks and fun activities and not just mom on baby duty. Hint hint.

What are you up to this wonderful Wednesday?

Coffee Talk

I’m home alone without a child for the next hour.

For the first time in a month and a half.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF.

Actually, yes I do. EVERYTHING. Work, write, eat, shower, breathe, read, relax, work, what?

I’m mostly doing the responsible thing and working but my brain needed a little break, so I’m popping over here. Whoever thought it was a good idea not to send the toddler to summer school without cutting back on work was an idiot. And yeah, that was me.

It’s ok. We’re mostly having lots of fun. This week has been a little rough because I’m extra tired for whatever reason and most of our friends are gone for the holiday, but that just means today’s kid-free break is all the much more welcomed.

Anyways.

coffee date

Do you know why I secretly love coffee talk days? It gives me an excuse to look at old Instagram pictures. Winking smile It’s pretty much the only way I can remember what’s happened in the past month.

1// The Kynado discovered the existence of imposter Raffi the 2nd, a duplicate backup lovey in case he ever got so attached he couldn’t sleep without him and we lost the original. The world only slightly collapsed for a few minutes and then he put his first major life lesson behind him.

2// I made it to spin for the first time in, umm, a loooong time. A gym-hating toddler means I rarely make it to a class, but somehow, someway the stars aligned and he not only went into the childcare without tears, he managed to stay the whole time. If only I could bottle up the magic formula that made it happen and use it on repeat.

3// The fastest of fast, easy dinners. Zucchini ribbon noodles with shrimp, sundried tomatoes, oil, garlic, and white wine. I should probably write about my love affair with my spiralizer because every time I post a picture of zoodles I get questions about it. I’ll put that on my non-existent summer to-do list that never gets anything checked off of it.

4// Seriously. Babies and bubbles, what better entertainment can you ask for?

5// NACHOoooos. Seriously addicted. I think I went through a two-week phase where I ate them every.single.day for lunch. Black beans, roasted peppers, jalapenos, chipotle hot sauce, cilantro, and “cheese” made of either Daiya havarti and coconut milk, or blended cashews and red peppers. There’s a lot of things I’ve had to cut out of my diet but nachos will never be one of them.

6// The husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary this week. SEVEN years. That’s like almost an eternity. I can think of very few things I’ve liked consistently for seven years straight. Luckily, he’s one of them. This picture was from a friend’s wedding at the beach last year. I love that we share an anniversary. Smile {Apparently when you have a child and aka no time, one of the arbitrary things to go is writing about your anniversary… 3 years // 4 years // 5&6 never happened.}

12 Succulent Summer Drinks

summer drinks

This collection of summer drink recipes is sponsored by Foodie.com.

It’s hard to believe it’s pretty much just now officially summer considering it’s been well over 90 for at least the past few weeks. But let’s face – July really means “summer” is already almost half over. Time to embrace summer full on if you haven’t already. July around here means not only the 4th of July, but the husband’s birthday and our annual family beach trip with my in-laws. Lots of reasons to celebrate and what’s the best way to celebrate? With a refreshing summer spritzer. Be it alcoholic or not, there’s nothing better than something decadent poured over lots of ice. That to me just screams summer vacation and relaxation.

I’ve put together a collection on Foodie showcasing twelve fabulous beverages to indulge in this summer, from iced coffee to green juices to marvelous cocktails, of course.

Sweat with Purpose: 5 Exercises that Will Boost Your Confidence

*Part of my series with adidas.

Swimsuit season may be half over, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still time to make the most of it. I hate, hate, hate when women don’t want to go to the pool because they’re not comfortable in their own skin. Just a little secret: no one analyzes you the way you do. So put on that swimsuit and get your booty to the pool.

Still not quite feeling confident enough to don a two piece? I’ve got you covered. Here’s a sneak peak at 5 of my favorite exercises to make you feel confident and ready to show a little skin this summer. You can read more on the adidas women’s training website.

sweat with purpose

Note: we all like to save time and skip warming up and stretching, but it’s worth the few extra minutes at the beginning and end of your workout to save yourself from nagging injuries.

I like wearing something warm on top of my workout gear to help ease my muscles into a good stretch. adidas’ Boyfriend Live In Capris are uber comfortable and the zippered pockets are perfect for stashing my phone while I listen to music. They’re easy to toss aside when I’m ready to shine with sweat.

What clothes you wear working out may seem trivial, but if you feel good from the get-go you end up with a better workout. I seem to be living in the Baby Bro tank this summer. It’s loose and flow-y without losing it’s femininity, like all of adidas’ Boyfriend line: the comfort of your boy’s clothes, the style of your own.
