Weigh in Wednesday: It’s NOT Physics
All throughout school we were taught:
calories in = calories out
The concept itself is ok, but I’ve mentioned before I don’t think it’s quite that simple.
What’s even more important than calories in is what kind of calories in.
But that’s my opinion. Since it’s Weigh in Wednesday, you get to weigh in with your opinion.
Here’s some info on the “average” Chinese diet vs the “average” American diet (standardized to 143 lbs for comparison):
| Nutrient | China | America |
| Calories | 2641 | 1989 |
| Total Fat (%) | 14.5 | 34-38 |
| Protein (g) | 64 | 91 |
| Animal Protein (%) | .8 | 10-11 |
| Fiber | 33 | 12 |
In 2002, 14.7% of people in China were overweight. 2.6% were obese. {When data was collected.}
Half of Americans are overweight. One third are obese.
What does that make you think about calorie intake, calorie content, & weight?
