7-months-old-baby

I don’t know what it was about this month, but when I woke up and saw the date my breath caught and my heart thumped a little harder for a beat or two. I have a 7 month old. Not a tiny newborn that needs his momma for every little thing. Instead, a mini-boy with attitude, personality, and determination.

A tear almost spring to my eye when this picture re popped up in my newsfeed. No longer is he the tiny boy that fits in the crook of my air or nuzzled in my neck under my chin. No, now he’s sitting on his own playing with blocks and toy xylophones. He’s trying to crawl, stand, and explore.

As nostalgic as the arrival of the 7th month birthday has made me {I can’t imagine how I’m going to feel on his first birthday} this last month has been so much fun. I’ve enjoyed every single moment of our time together and constantly find myself bursting into spurts of laughter over my little boy’s antics, expressions, and goofiness.

He’s nearing 17 pounds and is 25″ long, and made the transition to 9 month clothes seemingly overnight. One day the 6 month onesies were baggy and the next I was struggling to snap them.

My little champ nurses 8 times a day and eats solids once, although we’re about to add a second meal. He takes 4 ever-so-short naps a day and it’s a fight for him to stay awake for 2 hours before the cranks set in. Not exactly your typical 7 month old profile, but we tossed “typical” out the window a long time ago.

Now I need you to read this next part as if it’s a whisper and then please immediately go knock on wood: I think we’re on the cusp of better sleep. Better for us anyways. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.

baby trying to crawl

It’s impossible to capture an entire month of this amazing life in a single post, or even in words at all. I’m in awe of this little boy every single day. I love watching him learn- you can almost see the wheels turning behind those bright blue eyes. I love seeing him experience new things- new foods, new toys, new noises.

mobile baby

Much like the first time he smiled or laughed, this month’s greatest reward has been the reach. There’s nothing more precious than your baby reaching up his chubby little arms for you. His way of saying “I want you. I need you. I love you.” {Right? Winking smile}

Almost as great: the crawl into mommy’s lap. Which is followed by the climb-on-mommy-like-she’s-a-jungle-gym routine. And chew and slobber on her face.

I don’t know if I can fairly use the word “crawl”, but the little tyke is most defintely mobile. It’s part hands and knees, part ape-like, caveman crawl, and part hopping belly flop. Perhaps one day I’ll tell you the story of how I first learned he was officially mobile. You know, when I get over my mommy guilt.

I can’t wait to see what the next month brings.
