On to Day 5 of the 12 Days of Baby Stuff: our favorites for the 2nd half of the 1st year. KB turned 11 months over the weekend and it’s almost more than I can handle. I’m not ready for the next “monthday” just quite yet…

Like most babies, KB’s true favorite toys are those that aren’t toys at all. The less likely to be a toy, the more he likes it. Bonus points if it’s something he sees mommy or daddy using, like phones, remotes, or pens. {Not just a pen- the one you’re currently writing with.} Add wrapping paper rolls, tape dispensers, plastic clothespins, empty bottles or bags, and Tupperware to the list and you’re fully stocked on toys.

Aside from those things, here are some of our other most-used items at this age.

6-12 Month Favorites

1. Ergo Baby Carrier As much as I looove my Baby K’Tan, the Ergo carrier is much more practical as baby gets bigger. Kabes is still close, secure, and comfy, but with the Ergo his weight is on my hips and not tugging at my shoulders and back. The little hood that folds out of the front pocket is great for discreet nursing as well.

2. B. Wheee-ls Toy Cars These are those little cars that you pull backwards and then they zoon forward on their own. KB gets a kick out of them- he’s even figured out how to wind them up. They’re a soft-ish rubber instead of just hard plastic which is nice too, especially since he chews on everything.

3. V. Tech Sit to Stand Walker Once baby can pull up to standing, this is awesome. We have a slightly different one, but KB grabs on and pushes it til he hits a wall {and then he keeps trying to push}. It makes him so proud and he laughs hysterically that he’s walking “on his own”. The stuff on the front makes for fun entertainment regardless of whether baby is standing or sitting.

4. Leap Frog Learning Table like the walker, this is great entertainment once baby can stand. It’s the perfect height for banging and smacking, lights up, and sings a bunch of songs/makes music. The legs come off so the table top can rest on the ground for younger babies. The only downside: the songs will get stuck in your head.

5. Winkel Rattle This rattle is a little heavier than some of the others, so K didn’t really love it until his grasp was a little better. Now he likes grabbing at all the different strands.

6. Sensory Balls These are a HUGE hit. Perfect for bouncing, throwing, chasing, and chewing. The little knobs on them make them way better than regular balls in baby’s mind.

7. Foam Play Mat I scored a huge bag of these at a consignment sale and now they oh so beautifully cover our dining room floor. It makes the floor a little softer and squishier to protect those knees- and the floor from everything that gets thrown and banged against it.

8. Fisher Price Shape Sorter This is a classic. The blocks are the perfect size for tiny hands to grab and Kabes is constantly banging them against the bucket. Maybe one day he’ll actually put them in the bucket.

9. Mini Orchestra Shakers Much to my dismay, these little noise makers are another baby favorite, especially the one with jingle bells.

What are your 6-12 month-ish baby favorites? What are good toys as baby gets older?

This series is very helpful. I just posted our 0-3m “must haves” and will use your list today as we enter the next phase!

Love these favorite items! I think my daughter was most excited by empty boxes and pots and pans at 11 months, but I’m still glad I have a lot of toys for her to choose from 🙂

Fun stuff! Our granddaughter turns 1 next month. Can’t believe it.

We got her a lot of fun interactive toys, she is so darn smart. And lots of clothes although she’s growing so fast. She does love that sit to stand walker.

Can’t wait to see her!

Max and Claire still play with most of those toys!
