24 Weeks & Rapidly Expanding

by tinysneakers

Six months.

Good thing that whole thing about  pregnancy being 9 months is just a rumor, otherwise we’d only have 3 months to go…

There has been some serious baby growing this week- things better slow down or I’m going to explode. {Although my yoga teacher has confirmed that this has never in fact happened…Nor has anyone torn in half during labor. Thank goodness for that.}

What Baby’s Up To

baby at 24 weeks

Growing, growing, and more growing. I don’t need any book or website to tell me that- my rapidly expanding stomach is all I need to confirm that. I know babies are supposed to have growth spurts at 6 months, but fetuses? Apparently our is practicing.

Baby supposedly weighs a pound and a half and is growing 6 oz a week. {That’s a lot.} While the baby’s face is fully formed, he or she still doesn’t have a hair color- there’s no pigment yet!

How I’m Changing

My belly has moved up a lot- my uterus is now way up above my belly button, whereas four weeks ago it was right in line with it. It’s actually nice, as it makes clothes {pants} much more comfortable, even though it brings with it the return of some round ligament pain. {The ligaments that hold your uterus in place- they need to stretch.} It only gets me when I get up too fast though.

I’ve already established how I feel about people that say morning sickness only lasts for the first trimester- there’s nothing only about 3 or 4 months. Now I’d like to add that there’s nothing only about the first trimester- it’s reared it’s ugly head again. I can now confirm, however, that constant, unrelenting, 24-7 nausea is definitely worse than the occasional tossing of ones cookies. I’ve also mastered the skilling of squelching a nosebleed while throwing up. I know, my mom always said I was talented. I’m telling myself it has to do with the rapid growing going on this week and it’ll pass…

The Midwife Report

Everything looked great at this morning’s appointment- the baby has a heartbeat of 150 bpm, my blood pressure’s good, and I’m up 15 pounds, so right on track. The next appointment is when things start to get interesting: a follow up ultrasound, THE glucose test with a capital THE {fun}, platelet checking, first fundal measurements {uterus size}, and a check up. I’m already tired thinking about it.

{That’s not my shirt making the difference- it really did grow that much this week.}

Bits ‘n Pieces

I got a flu shot today- I really didn’t have to think twice about getting one or not. The flu is highly super dangerous to unborn babies and the flu shot is safe enough for me to be perfectly a-okay going for it. I’ve gotten one the past few years due to working in healthcare {aka surrounded by infected phlegm,spit and dirty hands} and handled it just fine.

In other news, the midwife that called me stupid has left the practice, so there is zero chance of her being on call when I deliver. That’s nice. I met another new midwife today and she was fantastic; so now I know {and love} 3 of the 4 current midwifes. Smile

Random Fact

Your ribcage moves up as much as 2 inches during the second trimester to make room for your growing & upward moving uterus. Umm, ouch?

You are so cute–I can’t believe how much your belly has grown! Glad to hear the midwife is gone too and you can happily stay there 🙂

It’s a good thing she left, she has no business being there if that is how she is going to treat a mama-to-be. So glad to hear things are going well for you 🙂

The rib cage thing is no joke – my ribs killed during the last 3-4 months (and counting… grrr). You look so cute! Just wait, you get big fast in the 20-something weeks! It’s amazing how fast you grow! Enjoy it while you can – and aren’t throwing up! :/

Holy moly. You have a baby bump! There’s a person growing inside of you! I know you already know these things, but it’s just so crazy (in a good way) that I have to write it down!

You look so cute! My uterus still isn’t above my belly button at 31 weeks- I just have such an abnormally long torso. I’m so sorry the morning sickness made a comeback! I’ve found that weeks I’ve felt the worst is when I’ve gained the most weight and had the most belly growth. I think they really do have growth spurts!

Really?! It’s so funny how different everyone is. They told me I had a long torso so might measure weird, but I guess not that long! I’m glad to hear you felt worse the weeks you grew more- not glad you felt bad, just makes me feel hopeful it’s temporary!

Glowing my dear. I love the weekly pics. You are honestly looking amazing. Your belly straight on still looks like solid. Pardon my non-prego talk, but you’ve taught me a lot:)

Congrats! I just stumbled onto your website and saw that you are pregnant. You are soooo tiny! I’m trying to figure out if you know you are having a boy or girl. I’m 8 weeks pregnant with baby number 7. It’s exciting every single time. 😀

Hi!!! You’re looking fantastic as well!! Mine was under my belly button until about 20 or so- it was weird when it started moving so fast after that!
