I have no idea whether I’ll continue to do monthly posts now that we’ve crossed over the one year mark, but I do know that I won’t be doing monthly pictures in a chair. Whoever thought that would be a good idea? {me}
Homeboy does NOT sit still. I hear this is not abnormal for one year olds. I suppose that’s where they got the name toddlers.
The weeks surrounding KB’s 1st birthday weren’t the easiest, but I’m happy to say we’re rounding a corner. I think it’s pretty common around a year, but Kabes definitely went through a major sleep regression and clingy mommy-must-be-less-than-an-inch-away-preferably-touching-me-at-all-times phase. That’s the technical name of the developmental stage, by the way.
I hope I’m not jumping the gun, but the past few days have been a complete flip flop: he’s playing by himself, runs over to give me a hug then runs away again, only screams every other time he falls, etc. Mostly he’s just a happy-go-lucky kid, which makes for a much happier-go-luckier momma.
It’s amazing what such a small difference in behavior can make, but I shouldn’t be surprised. Just like every other stage of babyhood thus far, nothing remains “normal” for long.
Along with a renewed disinterest in sleep altogether, this is the first month where Kabes hasn’t devoured every morsel of food in sight. He’s always gung ho for bananas & carbs {pancakes, oatmeal, rice cakes}, but is currently anti old favorites like sweet potatoes, broccoli, and mixed veggies. He is, however, a huge fan of almond butter. I went ahead and introduced it when I saw he handled almond milk ok. So far he’s drinking almond and coconut milk, along with breast milk. We haven’t transitioned yet but I just wanted to be sure he would drink other milks so we’re ready when the time comes. We’re trying hemp milk next.
The kid needs all the calories he can get: he’s less than 3rd%ile for height and less than 5th%ile for weight. It’s no surprise when you watch him for 5 minutes- he’s all over the place. He quickly upped the walking game and moved right on to toddler-running. He especially likes to run if he’s naked or anywhere near the top of the stairs. I never fail to get a work out in. ![]()
Our days have gotten a lot more fun now that he can walk- we can hang out with his older friends, go to the Children’s Museum, and bundle up and play outside {Or not bundle up, depending on the crazy NC weather}. I can’t wait to get him in the pool again this summer!

What a handsome little guy! Happy birthday to Homeboy! Have fun with him!
Such sweet pictures of him! And yes, it helps so much to remember that everything comes in phases… we’re still telling ourselves that, and she just turned 3.
Happy 13 months to him!
