pv.body Update: Uh Oh

It’s with regret that I even need to write this post, but I’m very careful and considerate of what brands and products I choose to review and/or promote here on with a Side of Sneakers.

Apparently I wasn’t careful enough this time around.

A couple weeks ago I enthusiastic reviewed pv.body, a company that mails high end, name brand workout apparel straight to your doorstep. Pretty cool, right? I thought so too. I was sent a sample outfit to review. While the pieces I received weren’t “name brand” in the sense that I’d heard of them, they were well constructed, made of high quality fabric, and retailed for a higher price than the cost of the monthly subscription.

I thought it was a great concept. So great that I after testing out my sample outfit, I signed up and paid for my own subscription. I signed up with a coupon code during a month with a promotion for an extra free top, making the cost of the first month less than a single piece I would typically pick up at Target. {Seriously can’t beat that.}

That’s when things went downhill.

First, when I checked my credit card statement, my coupon code wasn’t applied. Second, when the pretty pink envelope showed up on my doorstep, there was no extra workout top. Third, I received items of a style I very specifically did not choose in my style quiz. Fourth, I got the same outfit as my first box.

I’m a nice person so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to fix things. That was three weeks ago. The charge has yet to be fixed and I can’t get anyone to help me with the issue of the missing top or switching the outfit. Obviously I’m cancelling my membership.

Normally I would just assume they were busy and they’d get back to me when they could, but then Sarah piped up with some interesting news. File that under “things that make you go hmmmmmm”.

Now I know many people have had some great experiences with the company, especially in regards to changing sizes or swapping styles, but it’s never a good sign in my book when you can’t even get in touch with customer service.

I’m not one to bash companies or throw people under the bus, but when I review something on my blog and encourage you to check it out, I need to feel 100% confident in my recommendation. Unfortunately, I need to retract that support at this time. I hope the company will get there act together and get things sorted out appropriately, but if you were thinking about subscribing I’d suggest holding off for the time being.

I personally have had a good experience with them, brand name items that I love and no issues with customer service at this point. I am a little disappointed that they are now switching to their "own" brand and I will be alerting my readers about this. I also read Sarah's post and after thsi post post I an becoming reluctant to refer any readers to their site. Thanks for sharing.htt

I've had similar experiences- I used a promotion for a lululemon gift card on my first purchase, which I never received and probably won't. While I liked the clothes I got.. they weren't anything like what I said I liked in my quiz, which makes me feel like my money would have been better spent just buying something I love in a store. My next shipment was processing before I had the chance to cancel it.. so I'm a little afraid for what's in store.

I had similar issues. I received an outfit that could not have been further from what I told them I liked in the quiz. Tried to email for assistance and was told they were too busy to reply and try again later. I ended up canceling my membership and disputing the charge through my credit card company.

Oh my this is so disheartening. I just received my trial order a couple days ago, but based on your experience I too am leery now to recommend them to my followers. They do seem to be backed up and in need of some extra help because it takes them awhile to get back to my emails. I do hope they redeem themselves with you soon! Keep us posted on the outcome of all of this and I appreciate your honesty.

I am dealing with the same issue. I placed my order on December 21st and my card was charged that very day and still have no order. I have emailed many, many times and even was able to get ahold of a live person. Let's just say that almost a month later I have no product, have cancelled my account and am now going to my bank to dispute fraudelent charges.

when i got the email from them (i'm an ambassador too) my immediate first thought was bait and switch! i'm still not sure what to do about this whole thing since i have't seen the quality of the ellie line...but i do plan to keep my promotion of the brand on the DL until i do. instead of actively sharing my link i am just leaving my badge on my sidebar. i haven't gotten anyone signing up through my link in the last few wks anyway.

I heard a lot about pv body....I thought it was an interesting concept. Sorry to hear it didn't work out as many had hoped it would. And for those that it did, great.

I had a similar experience to you. They contacted me about reviewing the clothing on the blog, I received my clothes in a timely manner, and actually liked both pieces. But since then I am not impressed. There are 100's of women complaining on their facebook page and now they're trying to send out their own brand rather than high quality, tried and true name brand items but charging the same $49.95. I e-mailed Hope yesterday morning to let her know I was no longer comfortable representing the brand and of course I've gotten no response. Something is definitely fishy with PV Body.

I read a ton of these reviews and it's funny bc all of the first ones I read were great and the most recent ones are all not so great... hmmm.

So crazy. It seems like the first people who got in on this had good experiences, but more recently it's been negative for people. Sorry to hear that! I live in Canada so they said they'd get back to me when they open up international shipping so I could do a review then. ...not so sure after initially telling them to keep me on the list! I'm with you: "hmmmmm...."

Stay away....lucky for me, I got in early when the monthly price was $39, but after the 3rd package of getting ANOTHER pair of American Apparel leggings (which were sent one size too small, too boot, I give up. I love the concept-what I hate is the false marketing in which they compare their items to Lululemmon, and say that they have the top brands in fitness. As a spin and yoga instructor and marathon runner, I'm well aware of the top performance brands, and frankly, American Apparel is not one.

This is the 3rd post today I have seen about this... I am an ambassador for them as well and had only one issue but have decided to cancel my subscription between everyone elses issues and the bait & switch. So sad.

My experience (as a non-ambassador/sponsored reviewer) has been good. There was a delay initially because of their growing pains, but I've been charged correctly and received my packages - all of which I like so far. When I reached out to customer service, I was responded to promptly with a phone call. With that said, I have suspended my account based on everything I've been reading. If they manage to pull it together I might resume, but I'm not optimistic. It's unfortunate because it seems like a great idea, but they blew it by not being honest with their customers. Oh, and I haven't received my "free" tank either, but oh well ;)

I have yet to get 20% back either, pretty frustrated, and 3 of the 4 pieces did not fit or match my requirements. This bait and switch is pretty poor business practice, and they are really ruining their entire customer base with this.

That's so disappointing that yet another blogger had a bad experience with the company. It upsets me about this company, I think customer service is the most important thing right after the actual product. If they don't help and try to fix things ,it automatically makes me think the product is a scam which is what I'm starting to think about this company. I had the clothes shipped to me too for a review and they were cool but I didn't have the experience of actually paying for it. I'm glad I didn't judging from all the comments I see. Sigh.

Thanks for posting this retraction. I signed up for my membership after reading about your initial good experience (and Sarah's). I have a similar story: I received my first subscription and it was not what I wanted size wise, which is understandable, but also style wise. I said I wanted bright tops and they sent me a grey one. I said I wanted black pants, and they sent me royal blue leggings. There was also extra top for signing up, as promised. I returned the clothes via FedEx on 1/2 (that was free, at least). Their location is in Santa Monica (and I'm in LA), so I figured I'd be getting my exchange within a week. Nothing. I emailed customer service yesterday and got a generic email with FAQs, and a single line at the top that said my issue had been "resolved" even though my order status on the website was still listed as "pending." I was willing to chalk this stuff up to a new, small business experiencing growing pains, but after seeing your posts, I've changed my mind and cancelled my membership. Thanks again for informing your readers and looking out for us!

After reading good reviews I came very close to joining PV Body. Now after reading your report (and a couple others) I'm glad that something held me back from that final step of hitting the Purchase button. I hope you get everything sorted out.

Uh oh is right. I just signed on as an ambassador but have yet to receive my shipment of apparel. I'll keep an open mind, but I'm sad to hear that pv.body might not be as great as it seems.

SO glad that you posted this. I got an e-mail from them a few weeks ago and had been considering it (feel like it might be a conflict of interest w/ my lululemon ambassadorship), but um, nope. Thanks for linking to the other post, too. Good to have all the info & realize not ever review is going to be positive, which is the point of reviewing things! :)

Wow... that sucks! I was contacted by them to do a review, but I was a little aggravated with the way they went about it, so I never went through with it... so honestly I'm not surprised that things like this have been happening with them. I think it's great that you posted a retraction, though. It's refreshing to see some honesty about this stuff in the blog world, and I love that you felt compelled to share this with your readers.

I just got my exchange in the mail and detailed my whole experience on my blog. I think customer service is extremely important, and this whole experience is just leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I hate feeling like I have to hassle and nag to get anywhere. I don't know how I feel about the Ellie brand, but I'm glad that I at least got my one order sorted out. Thanks for speaking out regarding your experience. I was feeling like the only people who were having a trouble-free experience were the bloggers that were their ambassadors, but I can see now that was not necessarily the case!

Not to sound like a broken record, but I had the exact same thing happen. My card was charged the full price, my tracking number for the shipment never worked until the day the package was delivered, when I got the items I had no free shirt, and I got a neon orange t-shirt quality tank top with a design that looked like thread was unraveling, and gray American Apparel leggings that looked like they would fit a 10 year old. I could buy nicer quality items at the GAP for the same price. I just canceled this afternoon.

I'm glad you are speaking out about the issue! I've been watching PVBody over the last few months because I'm launching a new activewear line next year and thought they might be a good partner. Unfortunately it seems that they're pretty much the opposite! I'm a huge believer in having a real and honest relationship with your customers, so I think I'll be keeping an eye on them till things settle. Thanks for sharing!
