Ravioli Friday

by Heather

I wasn’t much in the mood for cooking tonight, like so often on Friday nights. I figured now was as good a time as any to try out the Buitoni Meal for Two I had in my freezer, courtesy of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program.

I thought the Shrimp & Lobster ravioli sounded the most interesting, and the one I’d least likely make for myself at home from scratch.

I’ll give Buitoni this: it was SO easy & fast. It literally took longer to wait for the water to boil than it did to cook the ravioli. It comes with a bag of sauce that you put in the pot while the water heats up, then you throw the raviolis in for 5 minutes and your done. I like that.

The pasta came with garlic butter sauce- and a lot of it. I probably used less than half of the package. Overall, it really didn’t make a lot of pasta- what’s on my plate above is just slightly less than half of the whole box. (I gave the husband and extra ravioli or two ‘cuz I’m nice like that. ;) )

The instant the husband bit into a ravioli he immediately exclaimed: “Ohmygosh this is amazing.”

I bit into it, then looked at him like he was crazy. Amazing was not my word of choice. In fact, it made me reconsider all the times he said my food was amazing- maybe I’m really not a good cook after all.

The pasta wasn’t horrible- I loved the filling in the ravioli. It was pure shrimp & lobster, and I could definitely taste the shrimp. (Not sure about the lobster.) There was no heavy cheese or anything, just nice, light seafood inside. The pasta itself and the sauce really didn’t taste like anything at all though. It called for immediate dumpage of massive quantities of Frank’s Red Hot sauce. Not even Frank’s could bring it to life though.

The husband says yes, it’s good. I say not so much. While it was an awesome option for convenience and ease of preparation, I doubt I’d ever buy it. Actually, I know I’d never buy it.

And boy oh boy did this make my stomach hurt. Oooooo. Time to go lay down and drink a beer to recover. ;)

Happy Friday!!!
