You Asked, I Answer: Food

by Heather

Are you vegan, vegetarian, what? I think I figure it out & then you surprise me…

None of the above. ;) How about an omnivore with vegan tendencies? I hate putting labels on myself- labels mean ‘rules’ & I’m not good with rules. I see eating as a combination of fueling your body in a healthy way & enjoying food. For me, confining myself to one ‘category’ doesn’t let me accomplish both of those things.

To really try to answer your question though: I eat a lot of vegan meals, especially when I’m at home cooking & can experiment with different ingredients. I almost always eat pescatarian- I don’t tend to eat meat except for fish.

That being said, if someone cooks me dinner and it’s chicken, I won’t make a fuss. If for some reason I had a craving for steak, I’d eat it. (That has yet to happen in probably my whole life haha.) Going to the fro yo stand? Count me in.

It’s all moderation & balance..and variety. :)

Do you think you have to be vegetarian to be healthy?

Absolutely not. Although, I do think that eating less meat is healthier. That of course, depends how much meat you eat to start with. ;) Choosing lean sources of meat is important too. There’s room for everything in a healthy diet. Everything.

Does your husband eat the same things you do?

Not so much. He’s pretty open-minded about trying new things. Mostly because if he doesn’t, he’d have to start cooking himself ;) I usually make whatever I’m making for myself, then throw on a piece of chicken for him. Sometimes I make separate meals, but try to keep them somewhat similar. (For example, chicken parm for him, eggplant parm for me.) It works for us.

Do you put everything you eat on you blog?

Oh heck no!!!

For one, you would get very, very, very bored. I am a huge snacker. I’m constantly grabbing handfuls of things & bites here & there. I don’t think it would make for good reading ;)

Also, I don’t want my blog to read like a food journal- I don’t want people to think they have to eat the exact same amount (or more or less) than me. Everybody is different and needs different things!!

Actually, now that you bring it up. You may have already noticed that I’ve been posted fewer meals than I used to. I’ve been thinking about my blogging style & schedule, and I’m not entirely convinced the 3 meals a day thing is for me. In fact, I don’t think any specific style or schedule is for me- I just want to write what I want to write when I want to write it. ;) It’s better that way for both of us. I mean seriously, I think you know what I had for breakfast without me telling you ;) So if things seem different, that’s why. As always, feel free to leave feedback on whether you like or don’t like something.

Great post! I think people put way too many labels on themselves because they think they have to. Umm you don’t have to be vegan to read a vegan blog and eat vegan meals. Do you know what I mean?

I agree with everything you’ve said in this post :) I can’t remember the last time I had meat – but still wouldn’t call myself a vegetarian! I don’t see anything wrong with organic meat, just…don’t tend to bother, I guess.
And I’m glad you’re blogging what you want, when you want! that’s what makes it so much fun.

i think i am similar to you — although i definitely eat more meat :) and i have to admit i get bored quickly of most of the 3 meals/day type blogs . . . although there are still some i love! i say whatever format you find most fun and inspiring is the one to take!

It’s great to find out the answers to these questions about you lady, quite interesting. I also don’t like labels that much but make it easier at restaurants, etc. by saying I am vegan since I do eat an entirely plant based diet (most of the time). Like jessica, I am happy you are blogging the way you want…more real that way!

I don’t put all of my food on my blog. I eat a lot of the same things and I feel like it would be really boring for readers!
