This afternoon I volunteered at a local American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event, which focuses on promoting awareness about women and heart disease.
The idea of the event was to help women take the first step towards better heart health by having them register for Go Red for Women, an AHA program focused on helping women to know their risk factors, learn their family history, make changes to be more heart-healthy, and to be familiar with the warning signs for a heart attack in women.
Once they registered they had the chance to enjoy lunch from Panera, enter to win prizes, and listen to female heart disease survivors speak. Unfortunately the turn out was lower than expected since the date had changed, and it was a mere 35 degrees out!! BRRR!! We were all FROZEN!!
Here’s a few pictures from today:
Yikes. That’s a lot.
We bagged lots of lunches from Panera.
That was mine- turkey sammy, cookies, and chips.
People getting registered for the Go Red movement.
That’s Ricky Proehl!!! (Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver!! He started a family sports complex here in Greensboro-Proehlific Park- that’s just amazing)
Bearing the cold to listen to the speakers.
Volunteers! (I was wearing red I promise—under the layers!!)
(I thought they were involved with the event when I first arrived, but apparently there really was a fire!)
They took a picture from a rooftop of everyone left at the end standing in a heart, but I haven’t gotten a copy of the picture yet!

The only cool thing about this event being postponed from last Friday is that now it coincides with Blog Your Heart Out day!! AHA and fitlosophy are encouraging bloggers to “SPEAK UP about the #1 killer of women- heart disease”.
You can be a part of the Go Red For Women movement too—Join now!! And spread the word to those you love!

Looks like a great event!
good for you for braving the cold for such a terrific cause!
What a shocking statistic!!! That’s admirable going out there in such frigid temps
great event. bummer it was a bit chilly out.
It’s fantastic people came out in the cold to support a great cause. I’m wearing red sweats right now and my friend just called me the Kool-Aid man haha … but it’s comfy and RED!
