I was trying very hard to come up with a creative way to introduce my tried and true oats to you this morning, but the morning-thinking-brain hasn’t turned on yet!
So here’s my oats, straight up:
And coffee to go:
My favorite Starbucks coffee mug
I go through these things like no joke. You would think they last forever, but they seriously don’t. I had a metallic green one with a handle that I loved but it died on me and leaks now. This one’s at it’s breaking point…I hope it holds on a little longer!! It’s so pretty and colorful adds cheer to early mornings
Now on to…
DYKT #2!!!
Did you know….
56% of NFL players are obese?!
Even the amount of activity pro athletes do doesn’t automatically make them healthy. Health, weight, and body composition are “big picture” concepts. We so often forget there are 24 hours in a day. Even if you exercise for 4 of them, there are still 20 hours to be accounted for. Most of them are sleeping. (If you’re not a pro athlete, a good chunk are probably spent at work.) What are you doing with the rest of those hours? Watching tv? Eating? Sedentary activities and food choices can play a huge factor in your overall health despite how much you work out. There’s a phenomon now called “the sedentary athlete”- one who works out hard while they’re training- but then sits at a desk at work, plays video games with friends, etc. The other hours in the day count too!
It’s important to note that weight and fitness don’t always go together. There are thin people who aren’t fit and couldn’t run a mile or lift 20 pounds if they tried. Then there are obese people who can run marathons or out-lift the average Joe. Healthwise, if you HAVE to pick one- you would want to go for fit. Your risk of mortality is actual greater if you are unfit versus have a high BMI…. More coming up on this next week!

Crazy information about the NFL players though some of them seem huge! I am glad to hear about the mug because I thought mine were always defective since they did not last long!
Have a great day!
Very interesting!!!
very interesting stat but it doesn’t surprise me. i read somewhere recently that if you condensed a football game to just play time it’s only 10 or so minutes. most of what they do is stand around…
I heard the same thing for an Olympic gymnast- a training session may only include 3 minutes of actually exercise!!!
I figured that a lot of NFL players were obese, but didn’t know it was that many! Very interesting.
That’s interesting, but true! But do you think they’re catagorized as obese based on BMI and not body fat percentage??
They measured both
(Since BMI could be off due to muscle)
Intersting info!
I go through starbuck’s mugs like crazy! They’re my favorite though!
Interesting…but I am not a big believer in using your BMI to determine health. It doesn’t take into account the amount of lean muscle mass you may have…so those NFL players might show up as obese on the BMI scale but they really have a lot of muscle that skews the results.
Regarding your mugs – do you put them in the dishwasher? Because that destroys them…also, to get the coffee stains out (and that flavor they leave), soak in hot water with lemon – it really works!
Nope they’re banned from the dishwasher!! I love the lemon tip!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. You should see what some NFL players eat – it is insane! I realize they are big guys and exercise hard when they exercise, but they really eat.
Interesting stat, but I am not surprised. BMI doesn’t take into account your body composition… It is just weight/height.
Yes but this was also based on body fat percentage!
Very interesting but so SO true! I know tons of really thin people who are extremely unhealthy. I would much rather be healthy and fit and not thin as a stick than super thin and not healthy.
The point Heather is making is that skinny doesn’t equal fit, and working out intensely doesn’t equal fit. She also does point out that BMI is less important than being fit.
It’s about making healthy choices all the time, not for an hour, or for one meal. And that’s a really great point! I’m somewhat guilty of being a sedentary athlete… I eat well more than half of the time, and work out pretty hard, but I spend a whole lot of time sitting on my butt!
